OUR WORK IN UGANDA

Teresha is the founder of spring of hope Uganda, when working with Youth with a mission in 2002 she researched about the situation regarding children with disabilities. Teresha's first time in Uganda she came on a gap year. (Spring of Hope welcomes any young person who has interests to volunteer on a gap year).
Teresha who had struggled herself with dyslexia and dyspraxia and due to her personal struggles, she has heart for people with disabilities. As she traveled around the villages, teaching Health Education. She noticed that there was no child with disabilities and wondered why?.
Why Spring of hope? (spring of Hope is a life giver organisation for disabled children and young people)
Through research she found many children with disabilities who were hidden away and neglected due to the stigma within the communities. (such parents of children instead visited witch doctors to seek for treatment thinking it was spirits being in possession of their children) She found that there was no support for them, and many parents had abandoned and lost hope for their children. One child they found was Prosy, 8 years old, with hydrocephalus. Since 2years old she had been laid on a mat every day. SoHUG arranged for Prosy to be taken to CURE in a specialist hospital to be given physiotherapy. Now Prossy can sit and has a wheel chair. Hence spring of hope (helping children with disabilities) was birthed out for the TRUE cause.

After eight years of prayers, now spring of hope is a registered community based organisation with charity No. 29/2011.  For seven years Spring of Hope has been extending its services to the communities under YWAM an international NGO in Uganda. program. We are so excited about what is about to happen.

We are currently in progress to developing SoHUG as national NGO ths will help us to reach out to all almost all parts of Uganda and change the lives of children with disabilities.
As a family we are so excited about taking up this challenge of leading spring of hope together. Teresha and Israel have committed there lives to seeing people who have been rejected  be accepted fully back i society and enjoy life normally like every normal human being. disability is not innability.
